Keeping the agency going

john-liechty-006wVolunteers John Liechty, Kenneth Humpf and Marie Miller are three of the many volunteers who keep Together We Cope up and running.
John Liechty of Orland Park gives his time and talent to our food pantry four days a week and has volunteered with TWC for one year. Retired after many years working for a mental health facility in Indiana, John said that helping our clients get back on their feet is a very satisfying way to enjoy his retirement.
Marie Miller of Tinley Park recently celebrated her second anniversary as a TWC volunteer. She works in the sorting room of the resale shop three days a week. Marie previously worked as a receptionist for a real estate company. She enjoys her volunteer role at TWC because she likes helping people in her own community.
kenny-wKenneth Humpf of Oak Forest is retired after 29 years with Bank of America and has volunteered with TWC since 2011. He works in the food pantry and on our delivery truck. Kenneth said he heard about the good work our agency does in the community, and decided to spend two days a week being part of that effort.

Palos Hills volunteers receive Reimer Award

Ron & Joanne Shear of Palos Hills are the 2013 recipients of Together We Cope’s Reimer Award, given to volunteers who demonstrate the care and compassion that is the spirit of our agency.

Volunteers since 2007, their efforts on our behalf have touched every aspect of our work with south suburban families in crisis. They have worked in the food pantry and with fundraising events, keep records for client services and help deliver special programs for clients. A favorite activity, they said, is helping coordinate the massive annual Tinley Park Postal Carriers food drive that benefits Together We Cope.

They agree there is great pleasure in giving back to the community where they live. “When you are young and busy with work and family, you always want to do more for the community but it’s hard to find time,” Ron said. Joanne adds: “I think it’s great we can do this work at this time in our lives.”
